<p><strong>Walk Tall</strong><br />
It’s the advice that our grandmothers gave us and its priceless- take a look around at all the stooped shoulders and collapsed-looking postures. It bunches you up, puts more pressure on your back and it makes you look dumpier than you really are, so walk tall with your head up and shoulders back to <strong>look skinnier</strong> in an instant.</p>
<p><strong>Clothes that Fit</strong><br />
Just like Goldilocks’ selection process with her porridge: you don’t want clothes that are too big, or too small you want them “<strong>just right</strong>”! Baggy clothes look slovenly and add volume to your figure, tight clothes cling in all the wrong places and make you look bigger than you really are. Just say “No” to muffin tops and choose outfits that are comfortable and the correct size.</p>
<p><strong>Fabrics</strong><br />
<strong>Dress slimmer</strong> with dark colours—black and all the darker shades are definitely more slimming than light colours. Another factor is pattern: busy, colourful patterns draw the eye more and if there’s one pattern you must avoid at all costs it’s the horizontal stripes! This creates an optical illusion that makes you look bigger. Your instant weight loss outfits should be composed of blocks of one colour, dark colour.</p>
<p><strong>Accessorise</strong><br />
To prevent eyes from being drawn to problem areas- draw them out to other areas instead- jewellery and bright accessories keep the focus where you want it- with the exception of belts. Belts look great if you want to emphasise a skinny waist, but if you don’t wave one of those yet, then it’s probably best to wait until you do.</p>
<p><strong>Go to Great Lengths</strong><br />
High heels are great for lengthening legs as are long boots. Longer line jackets can also help and steer clear of the double-breasted jacket- we don’t need any extra suggestions of width.</p>
<p><strong>Fake It!</strong><br />
Bronzed arms and legs look slimmer than white ones. If you’re currently “pale and interesting” then you could lose a few pounds instantly by applying a bronzing product.</p>
<p><strong>Accentuate the Positive</strong><br />
Bing sang it best: “You&#8217;ve got to accentuate the positive, Eliminate the negative”.<br />
This is great advice for absolutely every body. We all have areas that we like better than other areas- well then, play to your strengths and emphasize the good parts and play down the rest.</p>

<p>As everyone knows, <strong>changing your diet is difficult</strong>. Food choices are like deeply ingrained habits and it takes time and effort to change- I know this only too well because I have been cleaning up my own diet for about 10 years now. Whenever I hear of a <strong>weight loss motivation</strong> technique I like to try it and share it in the hope that it can provide some benefit.</p>
<p>If you&#8217;re about to embark on a radical diet change and you&#8217;re about to ditch <strong>refined carbohydrates</strong> (white pasta, rice, white bread etc) as well as <strong>extra sugars</strong> (chocolate, candies, cakes, pastries etc) then you&#8217;re facing a doubly hard challenge.<br />
Not only will you have <strong>mental withdrawal </strong>from these foods (&#8220;withdrawal&#8221; often times is accurate as we can get addicted to certain foods) but there are physical effects also.<br />
In the long term these changes are incredibly beneficial (e.g. steady blood sugar levels and your insulin response) but in the <strong>short term</strong> it may make you feel worse.<br />
For that reason some people take a <strong>serotonin supplement</strong> to help them though the tough times at the start.<br />
<strong>5-HTP (5-Hydroxytryptophan)</strong> is a precursor of serotonin (the body can make serotonin from it) and is a naturally-occurring amino acid. It is marketed in various countries as a dietary supplement for use as an antidepressant, <strong>appetite suppressant</strong> and sleep aid.</p>
<p>As with any supplement you should research it fully before taking it.</p>
<p>Radically improving your diet and health can be made easier with the help of tips and tricks, however not all tips work for everyone because the process of change is as unique as you are. This is why it&#8217;s great to try out different methods and find the methods that work for you.</p>

<p>In the first article of this series we looked at what cravings actually are: either a physical need for something or an emotional desire for a quick pleasure &#8220;hit&#8221;.</p>
<p>For each of these types I described strategies to stop cravings or even prevent them. This article lists 7 ways to deal with cravings when they show up suddenly. The methods are diverse, but my hope is that you will find at least one new way to stop cravings for unhealthy foods, helping you on your way to a slimmer, happier you.</p>
<p>Here are a number of different strategies to <strong>stop cravings</strong> ruling your life:</p>
<p><strong>Exercise</strong>. Keep sneakers on hand so that at the drop of a hat you can go for a quick run/jog/walk. Even a short blast like that can kill cravings dead because of those great endorphins that leave a big smile on your face. This buys you enough time to get a healthy snack (instead of the junk food you were probably craving). If you’re unable to exercise then think of a creative way to get your heart rate going and/or get outside. What about walking fast around the building? Isn’t there an errand you’ve been putting off over at the copy place? Don’t you need to go and visit a colleague up in accounts?</p>
<p><strong>Brush your teeth</strong>. Having an extra teeth brushing and floss is a great idea (provided you haven’t just eaten a load of sugar) for your dental hygiene, and I don’t know about you, but the last thing I want to do with a clean and fresh mouth is put junk in it.</p>
<p><strong>Avoid sugar and coffee</strong>. Caffeine and sweet foods disturb the blood sugar balance, sending it rocketing sky high and then crashing dangerously low, so to make things easy on yourself and cut these out of your diet (at least for a while).</p>
<p><strong>Re-motivation</strong>. If you’re using a motivation technique like a food diary, journal, cards with your goals written on them, photos with your ultimate body then now would be a good time to refresh your memory! Don’t wait until after you have eaten the junk to beat yourself up. Re-read your goals and all your past successes up to that point. Keep them in a place where you will see then often and read them.</p>
<p><strong>Argue</strong>. Sometimes the craving is like a little voice in your head so when a craving comes along, start listening out for that voice. It says things like “go on, you deserve that junk”. If you’re aware of this then why not intervene? If you heard those voices talking to a friend or family member then I’m pretty sure you’d want to intervene on their behalf so why not stand up for yourself? Tell the voice that you deserve far more than that junk because you have a set a new, higher standard for yourself.</p>
<p><strong>Treats for Adults</strong>. As a child, a treat would very often be something sweet. As an adult I continued and expanded this to “treating” myself with huge amounts of sweet and fatty foods! Little by little I have been swapping those childhood rewards with things that I enjoy but that actually do me some good as well. Like a glass of red wine, a massage or a new pair of running shoes- now you’re talking! When I need a really good motivation then I usually think up something like that and it works! Who needs gooey cakes when you can have new shoes!</p>
<p><strong>Delayed gratification</strong>. If all else fails and the voice won’t go away then make a deal with it. E.g. it keeps saying that it wants cookies. Well just make a deal like, “OK, you can have 2 cookies in 25 minute’s time, I promise but first we’re drinking a big glass of water”. And do exactly what you just promised. If you drink the water, wait 25 minutes and the voice still wants the cookies then go ahead and have those cookies- but stick to what you agreed.Chances are you weren&#8217;t actually hungry at all and it was just dehydration talking.</p>
<p>Be aware of your own patterns- if you start to notice that the cravings come around at the same time of day then why not plan ahead and have a healthy snack ready so that you can satisfy that craving and also feed your body with nutrients at the same time? Sugary cookies will actually just make you more hungry in the long term because they upset your blood chemistry.</p>
<p>And if after all that you give into a craving then just accept it and get back on track.</p>
<p>Re-writing the patterns of a lifetime takes more than just a few attempts, and just like learning anything new we tend not to get it right first time! By being consistent, brave and sensible you can get to where you want to be in any area of your life, and that includes being<strong> free from cravings</strong>.</p>

<p>I have developed  number of strategies that have helped me over the years and these ways to <strong>curb cravings for unhealthy foods</strong> have definitely helped me get rid of the excess weight and stay slim.<br />
There’s no magic bullet, no one-size-fits-all but my hope is that in reading this article you will find useful suggestions that will work for you.<br />
We will first look at what cravings are and then look at a number of strategies to deal with them effectively.</p>
<h3>What is a Craving?</h3>
<p>A food craving is usually either physical: your body is genuinely requiring something e.g. there’s a blood sugar imbalance or emotional: your brain has linked up pleasure with a certain food and decided that it wants some.</p>
<h3>How to Stop Cravings of Either type</h3>
<p>In general, the first type can be prevented by having a nutrient-dense diet and eating regularly and drinking water throughout the day so that your body is being supplied with top-quality fuel and your blood sugar doesn’t spike up and down. This way, if your body has all it needs it won’t even need to nag you.<br />
The second type of craving, however, can hit you even if you’re physically satiated and don’t actually need anything because the trigger is purely emotional. The good news is that this type of craving can also be prevented but you need to do two things: first, making sure you eat properly (as outlined above to prevent physical cravings) but secondly, you also need the apply some psychology to deal with it properly and permanently.</p>
<h3>Physical Solutions fro Cravings</h3>
<p>If you’re not already doing so then you need to adopt a <strong>healthy eating and exercise program</strong> because the best way to stop cravings is to keep you body adequately nourished. This means a varied diet with plenty of fresh vegetables, fruit and whole grains so that you not only feel full but your body is getting the nutrients it needs.<br />
Also, <strong>eat every 3 hours</strong>. This is a technique used to boost metabolism for the purposes of burning maximum fat while conserving muscle tissue, I do this and can recommend it highly. If you eat a proper breakfast, a hearty and healthy lunch, a light supper and build in two nutritious snacks between then I think your body will not have much opportunity to get hungry. Plus you’ll have bags of energy and amazing, sustained concentration all day long.<br />
<strong>Drink enough. </strong>Yes, yes it’s boring and everyone goes on about it, but it’s so important! Many times your body thinks its hungry when , in fact, it’s just dehydrated. Make up bottles of your own ice tea with herbal tea infusions made with filtered water and sip though the day.</p>
<p>And let that little voice inside tell you that you don’t have the time- you have the time for anything you are committed to, and you’re not going to get the body of your dreams without some serious commitment. You can do it, just imagine how proud you’ll feel to finally conquer cravings and melt off that excess belly fat.</p>
<h3>Mental Solutions for Cravings</h3>
<p>Let’s take a quick look at emotional cravings. Many times when we get these cravings it’s because we have, at some point in our lives, attached a happy feeling to a certain food. For me it was chocolate fudge cake; I used to see it and think pleasure, reward, happiness, OK I want some, now! Then one time (or maybe after several times!) I began to notice that I would have this sweet treat and feel just awful afterwards, and that was what I needed to debunk that particular craving. These days I look at a slice of junk like that and all I think is bloated, headache, gas- no thanks! Rather a different focus isn’t it? And that’s precisely my point: try to see these foods that you crave for what they really are.<br />
If you feel like a treat then find other ways to get that hit- for some it’s having a massage, going to the movies or relaxing with friends. What are some treats that you enjoy that don’t involve eating?</p>
