To maximise your fat loss you must do a combination of strength training and cardio- to only do one will limit your fat loss.

Strength training increases your lean body mass i.e. you get more muscle tissue.
Muscle tissue is metabolically active- that means that it burns calories just to maintain itself, 24 hours a day.
Fat, on the other hand, doesn’t- it just sits there.
